Goody Two-Shoes~
Believed to be the earliest known children's story in English.  It is thought to have been written by Oliver Goldsmith and published in 1765.  In the story, Miss Goody Two shoes only owned one shoe.  When she was given a pair of shoes, she ran through the streets and neighborhoods, accosting passersby and announcing that she had "Two shoes! Two Shoes!"  The title of the book has now become a household phrase, "Little Miss Goody Two-Shoes."

This book recreates one published in Philadelphia, around 1850 and describes the favorite games and pastimes that were popular and were to last well beyon the turn-of-the century.  A great overall lok at how the youth of the day "passed their time."
